1. Natural Virgin Kraft Paper

Virgin Kraft Paper is preferred in many applications due to its great strength and strong fibers. It has very high tear resistance and superior bursting strength. Virgin Kraft can contain up to 5% recycled materials.
The virgin natural kraft paper is the most used type of kraft paper, and it’s the one used most in tasks that require strength but not only. Its clean and durable fiber content and its low cost make it an ideal option for heavy-duty applications that require a high level of tear resistance.

What are the most common uses?

  • Packing paper
    Virgin Kraft paper is a perfect packing pager. It’s smooth to the touch, ideal for void fill and protection in packaging easily scratchable items.
  • Wrapping
    Doesn't matter if we are talking about gift wrapping, flower wrapping, or any other kind of wrapping…kraft paper is one of the easiest and stylish ways to wrap an item. It has a timeless vibe and presence and can be easily customizable
  • Paint masking
    Kraft paper can be used as a masking material for walls and floors when home renovating, for car parts when spray painting, or any other kind of painting as it can prevent paint from bleeding through. The masking properties, of course, depend on the paper thickness and if it is coated or uncoated...But more on this subject in another article.
  • Pallet interleaving
    Kraft paper can be used as a protective layer between products on pallets such as aluminum metal sheets. If coated with a special type of polymer, it can act as an antislip layer between products and prevent them from slipping even at an angle up to 50 degrees.
  • Dunnage
    Dunnage is inexpensive or waste material used to load and secure cargo during transportation. For this task, kraft paper airbags and other types of kraft accessories are used, as they are very effective and inexpensive.
  • Arts and Crafts
    Kraft Paper can be used for any kind of arts and crafts. It is mostly used with studio rollers at restaurants or coffee shops to showcase menus, offers, or messages. Is also used at home for doodling, drawing, or writing messages

2. Natural Recycled Kraft Paper

The main difference between recycled Kraft paper and ordinary Kraft paper is in raw materials. Recycled Kraft paper is made of recycled pulp, while ordinary Kraft made of original raw wood pulp.
Although natural recycled kraft paper is not as strong and tear-resistant as the original natural kraft paper, it is a more environmentally friendly option and still has enough strength to be used as padding and void filling applications, such as pallets and cartons.
It is precisely because recycled Kraft paper uses recycled pulp, and recycled pulp often contains a large number of impurities, so in physical Kraft paper properties and quality of recycled Kraft paper than the original wood pulp Kraft paper is slightly weaker.
Therefore, in the market where top packaging characteristics are desired, because of safety and hygiene (apart from the strength-related) requirements, is usually used original wood pulp kraft paper, while in general packaging is used recycled Kraft paper. These recycled kraft papers are also divided by grades from low grade to high grade.

3. Black Kraft Paper

Black Kraft Paper is heavily used in the picture framing industry as a backing for picture frames and or a backdrop within the picture frame. Black Kraft gives a clean professional look making it the most popular product for the framing market industry. but that’s not its only use. Black kraft paper is also perfect for fun and interesting craft projects, or as an aid to unique decorating where light barriers and dark borders are needed.

4. Colored Kraft Paper

Colored kraft paper is available in just about every color of the rainbow. Its vibrant hues make it perfect for all manner of craft projects, as well as fun backings for bulletin boards, standard school supplies, scrapbooking, and similar applications. If your target market includes, schools, daycares, or busy parents, colored kraft paper should be on your list.

5. White or Bleached Kraft Paper

Bleached Kraft paper undergoes a treatment using bleach and other chemicals to whiten and purify the natural Kraft pulp. Through this process, the paper becomes stronger than traditional brown Kraft paper. Because of this added strength, white-bleached Kraft paper is used heavily in wrapping and packaging. Similar to virgin natural kraft in strength and durability, white or bleached kraft paper makes an especially powerful impact when a crisp, clean appearance is desired. For example, many restaurants like to use white kraft paper as an attractive and economical alternative to linen tablecloths. It also serves well for wrapping and can stand up well to the standard wear and tear a package may receive.

6. Printed Kraft Paper

Many different industries take advantage of the versatility and value of custom printed kraft paper for creating branded wrapping, packaging, and in-store displays. For example, a fast-food shop may order a supply of kraft paper sheets in the perfect size for wrapping sandwiches and have their logo and contact information printed on one side as a means of affordable, continual advertising. Many fashion manufacturers ship their garments out with printed kraft paper sleeves or sheets between individual articles, or wrapping the inside of a shoebox, again with branded logos and other information prominently displayed.
As most of these types of papers are custom made, there are not many used in general purpose applications by the mass public.
